Being a neighborhood known for its giant chicken, majestic theatre, and open disapproval of Starbucks, it only makes sense that Highland Park would organize its own badass indy film festival. And indeed it has. The Highland Park Independent Film Festival (HPIFF) is coming to town Oct 9 – 12 and they intend to bring unique and captivating independent cinema to our neighborhood. This homegrown organization has posse’d up with local businesses to bring four days of film to the historic Highland Theatre.
The festival will feature short and full length films from around the world, covering a spectrum of genres, so expect variety. At prior events they have showcased dozens of diverse and unique films including Circle the Wagen, an eclectic and charming road-trip documentary about the vintage Volkswagen subculture in America.
In addition to screenings, there will be red carpet events, industry mixers, panel discussions, and an awards ceremony for those who like to mingle.
Also, if you happen to be a filmmaker, entries are still open to the public for a short while. So dust off the ol’ 8mm and make those final edits to that avant-docu-dramedy because you can still make the late deadline of Sept 1st.
Ultimately HPIFF will bring together filmmakers, artists, local businesses and film goers in the community, so mark your calendar for Oct 9th – Oct 12th and support independent cinema! Also, proceeds go to HPIFF’s mentorship program for aspiring filmmakers at Franklin High School. Just go!
